Aquatic Enterprises, Inc. has developed a purpose built Xenopus aquaria rack system, the XenRack™. The unique features and benefits make the system incredibly simple to service while maintaining healthy water quality for optimal animal welfare. The engineering of the tanks and Life Support System is the key to its simplicity and efficiency.
We incorporate a mechanical filtration system, capable of a micron porosity range from 1 – 200 microns (ships with 50 micron), which is guaranteed to never restrict vital water flow through the Ultraviolet Disinfection unit, Bio-tower biological filter, and the tanks themselves. Should the mechanical filters clog, water simply bypasses them with no addition of parts or equipment, nothing to service and nothing to fail. These filtration modules can have carbon inserts as well. This entire mechanical and carbon filtration system can be serviced in minutes without turning the water circulation pump off and without any tools.
The bio-tower is a small version of our large aquaculture towers, which have proven performance in demanding high-density aquaculture applications. This wet/dry trickle filter holds a large quantity of synthetic bio-filtration media, which is maintenance free and will not clog. An additional benefit of this unique design is the water is continuously oxygenated, benefiting both nitrifying bacteria and frogs. The tower doubles as a CO2 stripper, removing dangerous carbon dioxide out of the water. This is a key feature for frog welfare.

The tanks are acrylic with integrated PVC strainer and lid and are specifically designed for frog housing. Each tank can be removed from the rack by simply closing the valve directly above the tank.
With our “in-house” plastics manufacturing, we build our acrylic tanks with a number of tinted options. Tinted sides, back, and lids reduce frog stress. A clear front panel allows good visibility of animals. Our frog tanks have a increased air gap between the water level in the tank and the top / lid of the tank. This space is designed to reduce injuries sustained by frogs coming up for air. It also aids in keeping the frogs in the tank and off the floor.
The tank decks are made of durable, non-corrosive ABS plastic. As an option, we offer racks with clear tank decks and tanks with clear bottoms. This allows the researcher to view the frogs under belly for lesions without removing the frog from the tank or moving the tank itself. Less handling means less frog stress.
We are glad to introduce you to our new XenRack™ Xenopus Frog Aquaria Rack System. The unique design and engineering of our system creates an environment benefiting both frog and user. Our simple, cost effective life support system promotes healthy animals while keeping service as simple and inexpensive as possible. We are confident you will agree.
